"Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."

Meditation, Grace, and Music

Carlos from the Jivamukti Center talked about meditation in his thursday night class:

Meditation is the art of listening to your music, the music…the entire symphony of the source of creation, of god. It means that during your meditation you sit still and just listen. You don’t try to figure anything out, just listen…just listen to the music. The fruit of meditation practice is the ability to tune into and listen to this music.

This practice of ours helps lead us to spiritual enlightenment and salvation. Enlightenment/Salvation is not something you can capture or take…it is received. It is through grace. That’s why the yogis need to be receptive. This doesn’t mean that you don’t work for it, because it is through your discipline that you can receive.

When someone is wrecking havoc in your life, when you are struggling with them, it’s not that they are doing all this to you, it’s that you don’t understand how this player fits into your symphony…into your music. In actuality, they are part of your enlightenment, of your melody. Every person is a holy being, but our inability to see that is the cause of our suffering. When you understand something mentally, it’s not enough. But when your mind, heart, body…your totality understands it, then there is a revelation. This is why we meditate.
